#MoreThanAMoment
This campaign was launched during Black History Month to increase recognition of the diverse membership within the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO). The initiative aimed to honor historical Black figures connected to gynecologic oncology, such as Henrietta Lacks, and to highlight broader topics including menstruation and reproductive justice. Equally important was its focus on amplifying the voices of contemporary Black leaders in the field.
The campaign’s development involved thorough research on key issues affecting Black communities, including disparities in childbirth mortality, mistrust of the medical system, limited access to care, and the underrepresentation of Black patients in follow-up care and clinical trials due to provider bias.
Additionally, the campaign featured thoughtfully crafted interview questions and conversations with Black gynecologic oncologists. These interviews offered critical perspectives on advancing health equity, building a more inclusive medical environment, and driving systemic change through anti-racist policies and practices.
